Hand-formed from natural clay

SELAYAR is made from clay, a natural material consisting mainly of fine clay minerals.

By adding water to the clay, a malleable mass is created. This is formed into the desired shape and then fired in an oven at a temperature of approximately 1000 °C.

Afterward, the ceramic forms are finished and fired again. This results in a sturdy product with the characteristic appearance of handmade ceramics.

For SELAYAR, the black clay is combined with rattan fibers around the two handles. This small detail brings two natural materials together and gives the vase its warm, recognizable character.

A vase with an artisanal character

Each SELAYAR is individually handcrafted.

The classic bottle shape consists of a round base that flows into a long, slender neck. On either side are two symmetrical handles wrapped with rattan.

Due to manual production, small variations in color, shape, structure, and finish may occur. These subtle variations are part of its artisanal character and make each vase unique.

Handmade in Java

SELAYAR is handcrafted in Java, Indonesia.

Soeji states that it works with local production partners, ensuring fair pay and good working conditions. The products are made by adult and experienced artisans.

According to the supplier, no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Since many production steps are carried out by hand, relatively little machine production is required.
