Two days of traditional craftsmanship

LUHU is handmade by experienced artisans specializing in working with rattan.

Shaping and assembling the many individual rattan styles requires great precision. The curved lines are carefully built up until the characteristic hourglass shape is created.

According to Soeji, the artisans spend an average of about two working days making one LUHU table.

This intensive manual work is reflected in the many details and makes each table a unique piece of furniture.

The story behind rattan

Rattan is a fast-growing plant-based raw material found in tropical forests.

According to Soeji, rattan grows in large quantities in some areas and can take up a lot of space and nutrients compared to other vegetation. The stems are therefore regularly cut.

After harvesting, the rattan is dried and further processed into material for furniture, baskets, and home accessories, among other things.

The material is naturally strong and at the same time flexible enough to be processed into special shapes using traditional techniques.

LUHU is handmade in Java, Indonesia.

Soeji states that it collaborates with local production partners who prioritize fair pay and good working conditions. The products are manufactured by adult and experienced artisans.

According to the supplier, no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because almost all steps are carried out by hand, relatively little machine production is required.

Due to the use of natural materials and manual production, small differences in color, structure, shape, and dimensions may occur. These subtle variations are part of LUHU's artisanal character and make each piece unique.
