Main material: banana fiber

Our wall decorations are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.

Banana fibers are fibers derived from the layered trunks of banana trees in agriculture. The intense brown color is naturally created when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into characteristic strands, which are about 6 mm thick. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these useful plants a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This wall decor is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair wages and good working conditions. Only adult and experienced artisans work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with the companies.
