A special seat made from recycled paper

The story behind Trembesi

INDRA's frame is made of Trembesi, also known as rain tree or monkeypod wood.

The rain tree is common in Southeast Asia and grows in Indonesia along roads, in parks, and other urban areas. The tree is originally from South America and has been planted in many places in Indonesia as an ornamental and shade tree.

To limit the tree's strong growth, extensive branches are regularly pruned. According to Soeji, the wood released can then be used for furniture production.

The Trembesi wood used for these products comes from East Java. The warm color and natural wood grain are somewhat reminiscent of teak and give each INDRA its own character.

Handmade in Java

INDRA is handcrafted in Java, Indonesia.

Experienced artisans create the wooden frame and then process the recycled paper fibers into the woven seat. Each stool is made individually with attention to construction and finishing.

Soeji states that they work with local production partners who prioritize fair pay and good working conditions. The products are manufactured by adult and experienced professionals.

According to the supplier, no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because many production steps are carried out by hand, relatively little machine production is required.

Due to the handcrafted production process and the natural properties of the wood, small differences in color, wood grain, shape, and dimensions may occur. These variations make each piece unique.
