Hand-woven bamboo with character

The base of BENOA is made of sturdy bamboo, hand-woven into a round basket by experienced artisans.

Then the bamboo gets its characteristic black finish. The paint is deliberately applied in a used look, so that the natural structure remains visible and the basket gets a slightly weathered appearance.

The top is finished with natural fibers and integrated handles, making the basket easy to move.

Due to the handmade production process, every BENOA is slightly different. Small differences in color, structure, shape and finish are part of the product's character.

The story behind bamboo

Bamboo is a particularly fast-growing plant raw material that can be used for various applications.

According to Soeji, the bamboo for these baskets is harvested in the immediate vicinity of the workshop where the material is processed. This limits the transport distances between raw material and production.

After harvesting, the bamboo is prepared and processed into thin, sturdy pieces that are hand-woven by the artisans.

BENOA is handmade in Java, Indonesia.

Soeji states that it collaborates with local production partners who pay attention to fair wages and good working conditions. The products are made by adult and experienced professionals.

According to the supplier, no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because many tasks are performed entirely by hand, relatively little machine production is required.
