This handmade basket is crafted from sturdy banana fibers and finished with a striking net-like pattern of white cotton cords. The contrast between the warm brown fibers and the light cotton gives the basket a serene boho look that fits beautifully in the bedroom, bathroom, or living room.

Thanks to the matching lid, you can easily store laundry, blankets, toys, or other items out of sight. The funnel shape of the lid also provides extra space compared to a flat lid.

Sturdy and dimensionally stable

From banana plant to handmade basket

For this basket, fibers are used that come from the layered trunks of banana trees.

According to Soeji, only old, dying banana trees are used for this purpose. The fibers thus get a second life as a strong natural raw material.

After harvesting, the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. During this natural drying process, the characteristic warm brown color develops.

Subsequently, the individual strips are rolled into sturdy strands of approximately 6 mm thick and then hand-processed by experienced craftsmen into the final basket.

The basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia.

Soeji states that they work with local production partners who focus on fair pay and good working conditions. The products are made by adult and experienced artisans.

According to the supplier, no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because many production steps are carried out by hand, relatively little machine production is needed.

Due to the use of natural materials and manual manufacturing, color, shape, and dimensions may vary slightly. These small variations are part of the artisanal character and make each basket unique.
