Natural material with its own character

For this basket, vegetable fibers are used, which are first dried and then processed by hand.

The supplier information mentions both banana fiber and seagrass. Both are natural fibers that are processed into strong strands used by artisans to weave baskets.

Banana fibers come from the trunks of banana plants. According to Soeji, old, dying banana trees are used for this. The fibers are dried in the sun for about a week, naturally creating the warm brown color.

Afterwards, the fibers are rolled into strong strands and processed by hand.

Handmade in Java

The basket is manufactured in Java, Indonesia.

Soeji states that it works with local producers, paying attention to fair wages and good working conditions. The products are made by adult and experienced artisans.

According to the supplier, no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. As many steps are performed entirely by hand, little machine production is required.

Each basket is made individually. This means small differences may occur in color, shape, structure, and dimensions. These natural variations emphasize the handmade character.
