Two natural materials

The frame of CARAMIN is made from Trembesi wood, also known as rain tree or monkey pod wood.

The seat is hand-finished with woven rattan. The combination of sturdy hardwood and flexible wickerwork provides a natural look and unique texture.

Each stool is individually handmade. As a result, small variations in color, wood grain, shape, and finish may occur. It is precisely these variations that emphasize the artisanal character of CARAMIN.

The story behind Trembesi

Trembesi is a fast-growing tree common in Southeast Asia.

The tree originated in South America but is widely grown in Indonesia in urban areas, parks, and along roads, where it is often planted as an ornamental and shade tree.

To limit the tree's expansive growth, branches are regularly pruned. According to Soeji, this wood is then used for furniture production, among other things.

The Trembesi wood for CARAMIN comes from East Java. Its warm color and natural wood structure give the material a look somewhat reminiscent of teak.

Handcrafted in Java

CARAMIN is handmade in Java, Indonesia.

Experienced artisans process the wood and then apply the woven rattan seat. This brings together traditional craftsmanship and two different natural materials in one piece of furniture.

Soeji states that they work with local production partners who prioritize fair wages and good working conditions. The products are made by adult and experienced craftsmen.

According to the supplier, no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because many production steps are performed manually, relatively little machine production is required.
