From aquatic plant to natural home accessory

Water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant that grows on lakes and rivers.

The plant originates from South America but has also spread across Southeast Asia. There, water hyacinth can multiply very quickly and cover large parts of the water surface.

This reduces the amount of light and oxygen that can reach the water. To prevent further spread, the plants are therefore regularly removed.

After harvesting, the leaves are cut off, and the sturdy stems are dried in the sun for approximately three to seven days. This creates a strong natural fiber suitable for hand braiding.

Thus, the removed water hyacinth gets a new purpose as a raw material for home accessories like DAYANA.
