Our products are artfully crafted individual pieces. They may vary slightly in size, color, and shape due to manual production and natural variations in materials.
--------------------------------------------- -------------------
Main material: banana fiber
Our mirrors are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.
Banana fibers are the fibers of the layered trunks of banana trees used in agriculture. The intensely brown color is created naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these crops a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.
Other materials: cotton, metal frame
--------------------------------------------- -------------------
Production location:
This mirror is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair wages and good working conditions. In the factories where we purchase our goods, we only work with adult and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.

About Soeji
The name "Soeji" (pronounced soo-ji) comes from Javanese and means something like "pure" or "unadulterated" - which is exactly what our products are all about.
When we came across several small weaving workshops during a stay in Indonesia in the summer of 2019, we quickly recognized the potential of these wonderful products. We started talking to the owners and it became clear that they were interested in realizing our designs.
Since then, we have designed and produced many great products based on traditional patterns, put together a small but beautiful assortment and finally made it available to a wider audience in our online shop in June 2020.
For our home and fashion accessories, we only use natural, environmentally friendly materials (which would often end up in the trash as waste products or weeds) and the work of experienced Indonesian artisans. Every sale of our handmade products thus sustainably supports rural communities in earning their living. Especially the elderly, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit greatly from the jobs these workshops create.
Thanks to our close cooperation with local small producers without intermediaries and long communication channels, we can guarantee very good working conditions and wages and precisely track the origin of the raw materials.
A pleasant side effect for you are fair prices, of which you can be sure that a lot goes to the producers and little to international companies.
More information about us, our principles and the production processes can be found on our website www.soeji.de.
